Henri is one, hooray!! What does every one year old deserve?? A huge birthday blowout, and that is just what we gave our little man. The day after Henri turned one we planned a big party for Henri. Because our house is on the smaller side we decided to rent a tent for the back yard in case it rained. To save us some moola, JP decided he would pick up the tent, tables and chairs as well as set up the tent himself. Luckily, my in-laws are awesome and came over the day before to help with the party preparations. JP and his dad worked together putting up the tent and setting up the tables and chairs. My mother-in-law helped clean up the yard and actually got on her hands and knees and trimmed the overgrowth of grass along the edge of our driveway with a pair of scissors(we need a weed whacker!). As we were getting the house ready, my mother was working all day preparing home made lasagna, pork shoulder, and sausage and peppers.
The weather was touch and go all week, especially the weekend forecast. The morning of the party the sun was shining. Henri and I packed up and headed out to pick up my mom, LOTS of ice, and balloons. Once we got back to the house my mom went straight to work preparing all of our appetizers, fruit salad, veggie platter etc. My brother Rob, who is AWESOME, also arrived early and worked right along side my mom in getting things ready. The weather held out when the guests arrived.
The food that we ordered arrived around 3 and my father-in-law helped to unload and set up. I ordered WAY too much food, but I guess it is better to have more than not enough. We made it through dinner with the sun still shining. We brought the cake out and that's when the sky turned and the winds picked up. All of a sudden the tent started to shake and the sky opened up and seemed to dump buckets of rain. Everyone made a dash for the house and JP, Uncle Mike, Mark, Rob and a few others remained under the tent holding the METAL polls to keep it from falling down.....it was a tense few moments. The rain lasted about 15 minutes and then we all headed back outside for cake!! Henri seemed to enjoy himself for the most part. He cried at the end of our "Happy Birthday" song, but loved the cake!!
I have to say, I am glad it's over. Many thanks to my mom and in-laws for all their hard work in helping make the day fabulous!!!
You are a great little party planner. So sorry we weren't able to stay longer. It looks like Henri enjoyed his cake smash experience. What a lucky boy to have such awesome parents.
