When Henri was born JP and I decided that we would not allow him to watch tv. I read an article in a hip parenting magazine that said tv could be harmful to infants and even cause attention deficit disorder. We have stayed true to our promise for the most part, however days at home with Henri can be long and one can only give his/her undivided attention to a baby for so many hours. Occasionally I will turn on the tube while I am playing with Henri in the living room. For the most part he ignores the tv, until one night I came across ELMO - It was love at first sight for Henri. He was mesmerized. He sat completely still for almost 20 minutes (don't tell JP :0) I have now come to a complete understanding for parents who let their kids watch tv--it gives THEM a break! I have come to believe that tv is okay in moderation, especially if it can save your sanity on those days that you are overwhelmed with exhaustion and need 5 minutes of non-movement. ReplyDeleteFirst of all I love this website. I think this is going to be the most precious gift to Henri when he grow up.
As you know, my baby is the same age as Henri. 9 month old. I let him watch TV(Cartoon)for at least 20 mintues a day. He loves to watch Mickey Mouse and he has his own Mickey Mouse at home. I feel he's learning too much from this chanel. He's learning to relate things to each other, he's learning the animal sounds and the numbers and color. It is an educational chanel for babies.I don't see anything wrong with 9 month old watching TV for 20 minutes a day. My baby is a happy intelligent baby. He is showing me so much early cognitive development maybe the daycare is helping too.
