Smiles, Sit-Ups and Six months!

Henri is officially six months old today! We went to his six month well child visit this week and Henri couldn't be better. He now weighs 18.2 lbs and is 28 inches long - still in the 94% for height and is creeping up to the 60% for weight. It is hard to believe he has gained a whopping 10 lbs since birth and on nothing but milk......you would think that I would be loosing weight at a rapid pace with the amount Henri eats, but I manage to make up for all of my outgoing calories by eating candy and ice cream :-) We have been officially given the green light for adding solid foods to Henri's diet. I have to say that I have been putting it off after our two evenings of projectile vomit which commenced after Henri ate rice cereal. I am still motivated to start making my own baby food so maybe I'll give it a go tomorrow afternoon.

I am constantly reading my baby books and looking to see what milestones will come next and if my son is hitting his benchmarks. Although Henri is the happiest baby I have ever met he does not give many hearty giggles or belly laughs. I set out on a mission to get Henri to really let loose and give me a hearty laugh. I tried everything from tickling him to making funny faces and I got nothing more than a little giggle. The other night, while waiting for JP to come home from work, I was watching tv with Henri. In a commercial, I saw an 80's rocker make the rock on symbol and head bang while sticking out his tongue. Henri smiled up at the tv at this so I gave it a try. I stuck my tongue out and shook my head while making the rock on symbol. Henri erupted in laughter......it was the funniest thing I ever saw. He was truly giving me the belly laughs that I so desperately wanted to hear.....cutest thing ever. Of course when daddy came home and I tried to duplicate the laugh, Henri just stared at me as if to say "what the heck are you doing crazy lady." I continue to look for more ways to get my little guy to giggle and laugh out loud.

At six months, a baby should be able to sit up on his/her own for at least a little while before falling down (so my baby book says). We have been practicing this with Henri for quite some time, however he can last no longer that 5 seconds before toppling over. Last night we had a breakthrough. I put Henri on my bed (to provide some cushion for the fall) and he was able to sit up for about a minute. I was so proud of my little guy. I ran for the camera and took the following shots. It really is the truth that they grow up so fast. Henri is changing and growing everyday. Part of me can't wait for him to grow into a boy while another part of me wants him to remain a baby forever. No matter how old he is, he will always be my little squeaker :-)
